In Part 1, students familiarise themselves with the concepts of local environment and the sense of place, and how they perceive the place where they live.

They discuss how places are different and how familiarity and knowledge can influence our ideas about a place. Students reflect on how people can think differently about the same place.

Activity 1.1 introduces students to geographical concepts such as climate and weather, natural and human environments, population density, and threats and problems.
