Charles & Ruth Lane Poole
By John Dargavel
Charles Lane Poole, the first Commonwealth forester, brought scientific and professional ideals to Australian forestry. Ruth Lane Poole designed the interiors of The Lodge and Government House according to the ideals of the arts and crafts movement. Together they wove fresh threads into Australia’s national life after the seat of government moved to Canberra in 1927.
